Adam Syringe
Preview Photo Coming Soon!
Another piece from the Bioshock series, the Adam syringe is a device
carried around by the Little Sisters so they can extract the Adam
enriched blood from the many corpses in Rapture and then drink it,
allowing the see slug in their chest to process it into a pure
compound. Our version of the syringe started off as a 1920’s gas pump.
A needle was made using a wooden dowel and the Adam jar made from a
cocktail onion container. The “liquid” inside is actually red crinkled
film illuminated by a super bright LED with a battery inside the
handle. The prop is painted with Krylon Hammered paints and weathered
with acrylics and mineral spirits

Deadmau5 Heads (Fabric Versions)
Preview Photo Coming Soon!
An unusual build for us as the project doses not involve fiberglass, resin, vacuum-forming, or painting, Deadmau5 continues our work with famous masked electronic musicians. Using dimensions provided by deadmau5 himself, the heads were created using 14” acrylic globes with ears made of pink insulation foam. The ears attach with threaded inserts allowing them to be removed, and a hard hat is mounted inside to allow the head to be worn comfortably. The head and ears are covered with Stretch Velvet, with the mouth/visor being shear fabric wrapped around a chicken wire frame. 6” globes were cut and trimmed to form the eyes. Construction set a new record for us, as the each helmet, from first cut to last stich, only took 2 days to complete. As of October 2011 we have completed a red and black version, and may create some 2SP custom versions in the near future.

Luka Megurine Props

Shortly before Dragon*Con 2011 we were asked by a friend of ours for help on her D*Con costume in exchange for some sewing work down the line. The character is a Vocaloid, which is a digital pop star that is big in Japan and recently made a North American debut at this year’s Anime Expo, and we were asked to make the headphones and arm display. The head phones were made using an off-the-shelf headband and ear pieces sculpted from wood and PVC, then molded and cast in fiberglass with Lexan windows. The arm panel was also sculpted from balsa and cast in resin. Both pieces have blue LEDs to mimic the look on the character’s digital rendering.

Daft Punk (TRON Legacy movie premier)

David has been a long-time Daft Punk fan and has been wanting to build the iconic helmets and gloves for several years. Utilizing home-grown 3D models and the Pepakura paper modeling technique, the helmets went through several design changes before arriving at the final sculpt. The finished sculpts were molded, cast in fiberglass, and then chromed. Gloves were made from custom-sculpted vacuum-forming bucks, and the final pulls were also chromed. Tuxedos from Men's Warehouse completed the ensemble.

Bioshock 2: Subject Delta

During Dragon*Con 2010, we saw an abundance of Splicers and Little Sisters from the popular video game series Bioshock. Wayne noticed, however, that the most iconic characters from the games, the Big Daddies, were absent from the convention and decided that this needed to be corrected for D*Con 11. Choosing to create the Big Daddy protagonist from the second game, Subject Delta, 2SP worked for 8 months to bring the monster to life. Pushing the limits of our abilities, the entire suit was made in-house including the custom sculpted fiberglass helmet, oversized foam boots, padded structural suit, the hand dyed and sewn dive suit, and even the operational drill! The wearer is kept cool by a combination of a cold vest inside the suit and fans pushing cool air into the helmet.

Portal: Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device ("Portal Gun")
Preview photo coming soon!
One of the most requested props we have been asked to make (after Daft Punk), the Portal Gun is a recognizable icon in both the video game and prop building communities. Our gun was made more of a casual build to show off at Dragon*Con while taking a break from our more demanding outfits. The gun is made using a PVC base and two shells sculpted from expanding foam and sealed with bondo and fiberglass. Inside the gun are 24 LEDs, half orange, half, blue, which allow the user to switch between portal functions. Custom decals were made for this project, imbedding out 2SP door logo into the Aperture Science emblem. The entire gun was sanded with 2000 grit paper and treated with car wax to make it look prototype new.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Proton Pack

Wayne has been a Ghostbusters fan since before he was born. Before 2SP was founded he made 3 attempts in college to make a proton pack, then after moving to Huntsville built the Mark IV series for Halloween 2009, which are replicas from the films. When Dan Aykroyd signed his pack, he decided to make a new pack based on the pack seen in the 2009 video game. A new shell for the pack and thrower were made to include the new details from the game such as the extra power cell and HUD lights on the gun mount. Additionally, pressure canisters, vacuum tubes, and new hoses were added to create the fully upgraded look. The lights were outsourced to Jupiter Electronics, who with the help of 2PS provided dimensions and lighting studies created one of the best light kits we have ever seen. Considered one of the most detailed proton packs by the gbfans community, the pack still cannot switch between firing modes like the game version, which will be fixed on the Mark VI version for D*Con 2011.

Legacy Effects style ODST

Our ODST project was a year-long endeavor that pushed us to the limits of our abilities and made us learn new methods of prop building. The costumes are composed of fiberglass armor components over modified military MOLLE vests and air-force style flight suits. They also include some custom-sewn components for mounting some of the armor components to. The helmets are fiberglass castings as well, and they have custom vacuum-formed visors, which is a process we had to learn on the fly. Our SMGs are solid resin castings, which, for an item of this scale and detail, was a new experience for us. The entire costume is based on the live-action version built by Legacy Effects for the Halo 3: ODST commercial entitled “We Are ODST.” The design of the costume varies greatly from the design in the game itself, so it sets our costumes apart from other ODST costumes that are out there.

Rocket City Ghostbusters

Construction of the original Rocket City Ghostbusters (RCGB) costumes was an important mile stone in 2SP’s history. This was the first group costume we ever worked on and is the main reason the two founders, David and Wayne, discovered they were neighbors. Building 4 complete costumes, the proton packs, traps, and PKE meters were made using fiberglass and resin shells pulled from custom made silicon rubber molds. The uniforms are custom dyed Rothco jump suits designed to match those seen briefly in Ghostbusters 2. Originally built for Halloween 2009, these suits are now being used for various volunteer and charity work.
